Specific Share #7: Business Trip
Business trip…Honey for our ears. It’s a chance to get away from it all and relax…for free! You get to see new countries and new people. It’s like a vacation paid for by somebody else. It also often means a cool new car, that is, again, not yours! Everybody knows that the fastest car is a rental car. In addition, you stay in a hotel, maybe not even a bad one, where your bed is made for you by some pretty housemaid. At least, you imagination pictures that she will be pretty.
How often do you go on business trips? Was your first business trip enjoyable and successful? Have you often experienced the lack of support when on business trips? What pitfalls of long business trips have you come across? Together with the speakers and participants of our meetup we will try to find answers to these and many other question.
To cut it short, business trips are great! That is what most people, who have never been on any, might think. Generally, they are right, but! They seem to forget that business trips are about work in the first place. And you have to work in conditions that are entirely different from what you’re used to. Here are a number of differences:
1) A different country, different language, different mentality and corporate ethics, different time zone (possibly)! Everything is different! This is a major cause of stress.
2) Close proximity to your boss/client. This is also a cause of stress.
3) Deadlines, deadlines, deadlines. They seem to be even tighter in business trips. Here you will not be able to put anything off until tomorrow. Especially if you are engaged in the field of mass production, you can simply forget about such things as today, tomorrow, working hours, bed, and sleep. This is a cause of stress too.
The more experience of business trips you have, the higher your stress tolerance, since you already know a lot, and have already become familiar with many things…for example, you know good places to eat and drink, etc.
We are not trying to scare you or something. Business trips are cool! They give you a second wind, and multiply your productivity and stamina! You start to realize that the resources of human body are almost unlimited. However, the most important thing is to remember that it is WORK, not a VACATION and follow a number of simple rules/recommendations to prevent this exciting trip from becoming a nightmare…
Now, let’s look at the recommendations. They are an essence of years of business trips to Asia, Europe and North America. In total, I spent around 3 years in business trips, including short, 2-day trips, and long trips for several months. Therefore, I have something to share with you.
